Empowering REALTOR® success by delivering exceptional member value and driving collaborative innovation for our communities and profession.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO
Renee Smith, 2019 President
Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS®
Andrew Sims, Chief Executive Officer
Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS®
Wow! What an amazing year is has been to be the President of the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS®. It feels like just yesterday that I was being sworn in to lead our great organization for 2019 and here it is coming to a close. Looking back at our accomplishments over the year, I hope our members realize how fortunate they are to have a Board of Directors, volunteer committee members, and a professional staff who day in and day out put in the work to promote success in our members’ businesses and further the brand of REALTOR® all across our marketplace. This year was a year of new beginnings. At the beginning of the year, our former Chief Executive Officer, Tessa Hultz, accepted a new association position in Long Island, NY. While we remain thankful to her for her service here in Raleigh, we know she will continue to do wonderful things for the REALTORS® in Long Island. Early in the year, myself and other association leaders, came together to formally interview dozens of candidates from across the nation, and ultimately make the decision to hire our new Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Sims. Andrew and his family have already made an impact on our community and he is bringing great new ideas and member services to the table alongside our leadership and staff. Our Advocacy efforts continued to put REALTORS® and consumers first in helping elect a new Mayor and City Council for the City of Raleigh along with scoring big election wins in several other of our Wake County communities. Great things happening there. Our members assisted the North Carolina REALTORS® in successfully advocating the Legislature and Governor for and ultimately passing association health care plans in North Carolina. Nationally we achieved more wins with FHA condo rules and huge wins in the national funding bill including the extension of the National Flood Insurance Program that impacts more than 50,000 communities across the country and many right here in North Carolina. Locally we are sitting in prime seats on fair and affordable housing roundtables and discussions as our communities continue to grow with residents looking to call our region home. Our educational offerings continue to grow and diversify as our members businesses continue to evolve and their needs to be successful change. We want to gather crucial feedback from you all on how we can better our course offerings and classes. Stay tuned in 2020 for some invitations to surveys and focus groups. Additionally, we are looking to make sure our members don’t miss crucial communications with their association. We will be looking at ways to make sure you are getting the news you want, when you want it. That will be a priority for us in the new year. Our REALTOR® Foundation of Wake County continued an upward trend both in dollars raised and in families helped. We are so proud of the leadership and staff of our foundation who continue to amaze all of us with how kind and generous REALTORS® are not only with their dollars, but their time in our community. This year was also a year of firsts wherein our Platinum Award winning Triangle International Council assisted in the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding with the National Association of REALTORS® India and Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS® in Chicago as we look to broaden our reach, business market, and idea sharing across the world. As we look forward into 2020, I know 100 percent that our members will be in great hands with President Lewis Grubbs and his team of committee leaders. Lewis’s passion for our members and industry is truly felt by all he speaks with. I can’t wait to see him as your President. I want to thank you all for putting your trust in me to lead our almost 100-year-old organization. I had so many mentors and friends along the way who helped me out and they all hopefully know who they are. I thank my company and staff for giving me the freedom to serve my industry. I will treasure this year as your President and look forward to continuing to be a positive, uplifting member of this association for years to come. I wish you all success in 2020, please let me know if I can help you in any way.

For the second year in a row RRAR's Global Advisory Group was awarded the highest honor from the National Association of REALTORS® Global Achievement Program with Platinum Award.
Over the past several years, the Association has produced the 2019 Profile of International Transactions, successfully worked to become the official Ambassador Association to NAR - India, sponsored the Annual Raleigh International Festival, hosted the CIPS Designation Institute, launched translation services for RRAR Members, executed multiple networking and professional development opportunities, and so much more to help our REALTOR® Members expand their business beyond borders.
Memoranda of Understanding
The Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS® (RRAR) signed two Memoranda of Understanding during the National Association of REALTORS® Convention, held in San Francisco. These strategic partnerships were signed with RRAR’s Ambassador Association, the National Association of REALTORS® - India, as well as domestic partners Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS®, located in the Chicagoland area.
These MOUs establish the cooperation of RRAR in developing mutually beneficial relationships with both NAR – India as well as Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS® that will directly impact both the members of these Associations, but also make a considerable impact on economic development and the housing markets.
RRAR and NAR-India have been paired by the National Association of REALTORS® as sister associations since 2017. With considerable foreign investment in the Triangle region of North Carolina from India, the two associations helped make their connection more formal by entering into this MOU and agreeing to promote bilateral information, market statistics, and increased local collaborations in both North Carolina and India for the purposes that are mutually beneficial.
